My experience started on April 11, 2005 when I became a statistic – I was injured at work.

I graduated in 1993 as a Registered Practical Nurse, and have been working since in various positions from Obstetrics to Long Term Care – spanning every stage of life. In 2005 I became a statistic, one of the many nurses who suffered an injury at the hands of a violent patient.

During my navigation of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board in Ontario, I’ve been forced to deal with the anger over being assaulted, the grief over losing a career and my health, and the frustration at being victimized repeatedly by the WSIB policies that have impacted my health and my future negatively. While I’ve achieved a measure of success in my story thus far, I’m publishing this here in an effort to assist other workers – who may not have the information they need to successfully fight for their rights.

You won’t necessarily find any answers to your situation here, but what you may find is some assistance in dealing with your own claim – resources and tactics that may help other injured workers, or perhaps an understanding of your physical condition. I’ve included as many aspects of my story as possible, and will supply updates as they become available.
